During the Timberwolves’ game against the Atlanta Hawks, Anthony Edwards left the bench and headed to the locker room with nearly 8 minutes left after coach Chris Finch pulled the starters while trailing 109-80. Edwards looked frustrated and tossed his towel before leaving, showing his disappointment with the decision.
Edwards didn’t speak to the media after the game, but Coach Finch said he wished Edwards had stayed on the bench to support the team. Finch understood why Edwards was upset but stressed the importance of sticking with the team during hard moments.
Despite the loss, Edwards had a strong night, scoring 30 points on 10-of-18 shooting, including three 3-pointers, in 33 minutes. He’s been having a great season, averaging 29.1 points per game, which ranks him eighth in the NBA. This wasn’t the first time Edwards left early this season; he was ejected in a previous game after arguing with referees.
The Timberwolves struggled all night, and the Hawks, even without Trae Young, played better. After the game, teammate Donte DiVincenzo said the players need to own their performance, not blame the coaches.
Minnesota now faces a tough weekend with back-to-back games against Miami and Washington.
