Celtics' White House Celebration with President Biden
The White House was tinted green to honor the Boston Celtics for their 18th NBA championship.
President Joe Biden, whose Secret Service code name is "Celtic," welcomed the team on the South Lawn.
This event continues a tradition that began in 1963, when the Celtics met President John F. Kennedy.
Biden quoted Celtics legend Red Auerbach, emphasizing that the Celtics represent more than just basketball.
All-Star Jayson Tatum and guard Derrick White presented Biden with a No. 46 jersey, representing his presidency.
Biden noted his kinship with Coach Joe Mazzulla, highlighting their respective ages as the oldest president and youngest head coach to win a title since Bill Russell.
The celebration featured a band playing “Shipping Up to Boston,” adding to the festive atmosphere.
Biden praised the Celtics for their record 64 wins during the regular season and their playoff success.
After the ceremony, Celtics members met with administration officials to discuss youth advocacy initiatives.
Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck described the day as exciting and moving, focusing on future goals while celebrating past achievements.
