Pistons Eye Playoffs, But Risky Trade Not the Answer (Yet)

The Detroit Pistons have, so far this season, started the year off unexpectedly well. As such, even though the Pistons lost a ton of games last season, they are halfway to their win total from then already.

Having had the success, some wonder if the Pistons should make a play for a superstar player to assure a spot in the playoffs. One idea floating around: trade for Kawhi Leonard from the Clippers.

But this trade isn’t a good thing for the Pistons at the moment. Here’s why:

  • Kawhi Leonard is costly: The Pistons would have to sacrifice many players and picks to acquire him.
  • Kawhi Leonard may get injured: He has already missed plenty of games in the past due to his injuries.
  • They are still young. Their young players are coming up nicely and should not hastily do a trade that would jeopardize their team.

The Pistons should keep developing the young talent they have on their roster. If they continue performing well, they might find a veteran player to support them in the future, but for now, they should stay put with the plan at hand.
