Naz Reid is remaining with the Minnesota Timberwolves on a huge new contract. ESPN’s Shams Charania reports that Reid has inked a five-year, $125 million contract with the team. He had the choice of accepting a $15 million salary for the 2025-26 season but instead opted to reject it and sign this multi-year deal.
With Reid’s new contract, the Timberwolves now have a total payroll of $206 million and are only $1.8 million short of the NBA’s second luxury tax apron, as ESPN’s Bobby Marks reported. Their current luxury tax will be approximately $23 million.
Reid’s path is remarkable—joined the Timberwolves as an undrafted player in 2019. He has now become a significant contributor to the team’s rotation. He even received the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year award in 2024.
During the 2024-25 season, Reid posted a career-high 14.2 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game. He made 46.2% of his field goals and 37.9% of his three-point attempts. He also contributed significantly to Minnesota’s playoff run. The Timberwolves reached the Western Conference Finals in both the previous two seasons, with Reid chipping in with quality numbers from the bench.
With Reid signed up, the Timberwolves are turning their attention to the futures of Julius Randle and Nickeil Alexander-Walker. Randle has a player option of $30.9 million for next season, and Alexander-Walker will be an unrestricted free agent.
The front office in Minnesota is obviously intent on keeping the core of the team intact as they make the push to finally make it to the NBA Finals.
