The Atlanta Hawks have made a surprise move by trading for Kristaps Porziņģis, but they’ve done so without any guarantee that he’ll stay long-term.
According to Brian Windhorst on The Hoop Collective Podcast (22:30 mark), the Hawks and Porziņģis did not talk about a contract extension before finalizing the deal with the Boston Celtics.
The trade, reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania, is a three-team deal:
Hawks receive: Kristaps Porziņģis + a second-round pick
Celtics get: Georges Niang + second-round pick
Brooklyn Nets take: No. 22 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft + Terance Mann
While Porziņģis adds star power to Atlanta’s roster, the lack of a contract extension adds uncertainty to the move.
