Kevin Durant Reacts After OKC Thunder Win Game 7 NBA Finals — Now with Rockets

After joining the Houston Rockets, Kevin Durant watched his old team, the OKC Thunder, win Game 7 of the 2025 NBA Finals against the Indiana Pacers. Here’s how he responded — and why it matters.

Sunday witnessed Oklahoma City Thunder defeat the Indiana Pacers in a historic Game 7 to win the NBA championship. Post-game, former Thunder great and now Houston Rockets superstar Kevin Durant had his say.

He put up a sincere congratulatory post to the team for their unity and perseverance. Durant posted:

“Huge respect to the Thunder. Good run, proud of those guys.”

Durant was true to his words regarding his continued association with the city where he started his NBA career and was a champion. Despite being in Houston’s payroll, the affection that he accumulated in OKC remains.

This win is a come-full-circle for Durant—from leading the Thunder in the beginning of his career to playing for their first title after moving to Oklahoma City in 2008.

The Thunder won the championship in a 103–91 Game 7 victory. The dominant play of Chet Holmgren and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander enabled them to gain the lead in the fourth quarter and win the championship.

Durant’s response illustrates how animosities in-game do not necessarily have to come before respect and common history between players.
